calling gmagick

I'm on shared servers and having trouble enabling Gmagick. It is installed, and not currently loaded as a php extension. Rather than doing that, the server admin said all I need to do is add something like '$foo = new Gmagick();' to the code and then call the functions like they are normally called. I'm not sure how or where to do that. Thoughts?

Sidenote: I'm hoping that using Gmagick will solve the issues I am having with Tileviewer right now. It loads slowly and the image disappears and starts reloading when clicked. See:
