Display templates - relationship type

I'm working on a display template for occurrences in CollectiveAccess. We have a relationship type for occurrence_x_occurrence relationships, where the forward typename is "supersededby" and the reverse typename is "supersedes". However, when I used the display template to show the related occurrence along with the relationship type, only the "supersededby" typename is shown, even when "supersedes" should be used. I'm using the "^relationship_typename" placeholder to display the relationship type. How do I get the reverse typename to show when appropriate?
