Restrict browse by dates by sub element

Is there a way to limit a normalizedDates facet to only include specific entries based on a sub element within the a metadata element which contains the DateRange element I want to browse on?

I have my dates in a container which also includes a list of what type of date it is. So for example I have one entry which specifies the creation date. But I can also have entries of the same element that specifies when the object was cataloged or repaired. But I want different browse facets for each of these sub categories. The types of dates are specified from a drop down list in a sub element and the actual date are entered in a dateRange sub element.

Entry 1:
Type - creation (from a list)
Date - 2010

Entry 2:
Type - cataloged (from a list)
Date - 2011

etc
