DatabaseException Error - Rejecting a specific character?

Posting on the gitter and this forum, has anyone experienced the following fatal error:
ERROR --> DatabaseException: Incorrect string value: '\xF0\x9D\x91\x86\xF0\x9D...' for column 'media_content' at row 1

It comes up when trying to add an object representation and I think it's a particular character that MySQL is rejecting, so I altered my character set for that particular column AND MySQL-wide to utf8mb4 as recommended on SQL forums, but it hasn't solved the error.
