Can't map import to hiereracy level

I'm trying to add nonpreferred_labels to a storageLocation hiererachy level like this:

ca_storage_locations.parent.nonpreferred_labels

There are two levels in the hierarchy. It seems to be ignored, as the debugging log doesn't show it as being recognized. What would be the correct mapping?
